Aims
The aims of the module are to:
1. Develop core practical skills and abilities on the keyboards.
2. Develop an understanding of how to translate music theory knowledge into music creation through a keyboard.
3. Play different styles of music on the keyboards.
Learning Outcomes
1.
Demonstrate the appropriate physical and technical skills required for keyboard playing.
2.
Use the keyboards as a tool for music technology, music creation and music production.
3.
Apply and develop their musicality and knowledge of music theory using the keyboards.
Module Content
Outline Syllabus:The module will be based around five key themes:
· Performance: accuracy in practice e.g. rhythm and pitch; sight reading; accurate reproduction of score conventions e.g. dynamics, markings, music language; communication and expression; continuity.
· Techniques: fingering; phrasing; touch; dynamics; use of pedals.
· Development of skills: hand coordination; rhythm pulse and meter; accuracy to score; stylistic accuracy.
· Practice routine: action plan; schedule; theory into practice; reflection and review; feedback; working to targets.
· Application of Music Theory and Listening Skills: interpretation of chord symbols and simple patterns; scales, modes and underlying chords; read sheet music; performing with accompaniment; elaborations on a given melody/rhythmic pattern; stylistic interpretation e.g. classical, jazz and blues, popular music, contemporary music; creativity.
Additional Information:The module provides the student with the core practical skills in keyboard performance and the application of keyboard skills for music creation. Assessment is via two presentations.
