Aims
The aim of this module is to teach students the main theoretical and conceptual traditions of international politics in order to analyse complex issues, developments and events constituting international relations.
Learning Outcomes
1.
Demonstrate knowledge on the main theories of international politics.
2.
Evaluate competing analytical and ideological approaches for understanding the international system
3.
Analyse significant developments and events in global politics in relation to theoretical contexts
4.
Design a personal assessment of the strengths and weaknesses of the principal theories of international politics

3. Global North vs Global South, Dependency and World Systems Theory
4. Classical Marxist theory and failures
5. Constructionism: Subjectivity, Culture and Ideological Changes
6. Collective Defence: Balance of Power, Prisoner’s Dilemma and Security Dilemma
7. Collective Security
8. Neoliberalism and neorealism
9. Critical Theory and democratizing global governance
10. Feminism and gender in world politics
11. Postcolonialism, decolonisation and the subaltern politics
