Aims

To develop an understanding and appreciation of the built environment sector and the different professional disciplines that constitute built environment practice.

Learning Outcomes

Describe the nature and organisation of the UK built environment sector.

Identify the impact of a range of factors, including social, economic, political and environmental factors, on the built environment sector.

Identify and apply academic literacy skills to engage with the learning process in a specific context

Explain the role of different professional disciplines that constitute built environment practice.

Module Content

Outline Syllabus:
The nature, organisation and significance of the built environment sector in the UK. The impact of political, economic, social, technological, legal and environmental change on the built environment. Introduction to planning, property market trends and development cycles, with particular focus on residential development Government economic activity and how it affects the construction and built environment sector. The principles of a sustainable and inclusive built environment. International perspectives and predictions for future change for the built environment and construction sector. Overview of professional disciplines and their roles in the built environment. An introduction to academic study skills such as information searching; referencing and report writing.
