Aims

To provide students with practical skills in the methods used by geographers to collect, present and interpret primary and secondary data. To develop both quantitative and qualitative practical skills and field based observational skills.

Module Content

Outline Syllabus:Fieldwork to develop skills in observation and data collection: Practical field skills in both physical and human geography, including observations, sketching, qualitative and quantitative data collection and recording. Techniques include GPS mapping; environmental sampling, observation and field recording. Data acquisition, display and analysis and communication including GIS. Practice skills including qualitative and quantitative data collection and recording. Data acquisition, display and analysis and communication. Small Group Tutorials to develop essential study skills.
Module Overview:
This module will provide you with practical skills in the methods used by geographers to collect, present and interpret primary and secondary data. You will develop both quantitative and qualitative practical skills and field based observational skills.
Additional Information:This module includes a residential field trip to develop field based qualitative and quantitative skills.
