Aims
The module aims to develop students’ knowledge and understanding of the nature and development of language and centrality of language in our every-day lives. It also aims to develop understanding of the social and educational context of communication, language and literacy development.
Learning Outcomes

Discuss and explore research and theories of language acquisition and communication

Identify and understand linguistic diversity and key issues relating to the role of language in education
3.
Reflect upon the role of key social actors in supporting communication, language and literacy

This module aims to develop your knowledge and understanding of the nature and development of language in individual, social and cultural contexts. The module is designed to encourage you to think about the relationship between language, learning and human development with an emphasis on theories and understandings of how language is seen to be developed, expressed and mediated in light of individual, societal and broader cultural factors and influences.

Additional Information:The module is designed to provide students with opportunity to reflect on the relationship between language and education. It places core emphasis on understanding and developing children’s and young people’s communication, language and literacy.
