Aims

To explore art and design works in a chronological context. To explore art and design themes and issues in a chronological context. To examine the social contexts for art and design.

Learning Outcomes

Display knowledge of a chronology of art & design works and movements.

Interpret and analyse critically the work of artists of different periods.

Module Content

Outline Syllabus:Typical session topics could include: The Birth of Art The Medieval World The Renaissance Society, Spectacle and Sex Class, Gender and Invention Bohemia and Leisure
Module Overview:
Within this module you will explore art and design works and themes in a chronological context to examine the social contexts for art and design.
Additional Information:This module is intended to provide students with a basic understanding of the chronology of major movements in art and design. It is intended as a traditional ‘survey’ module. Whilst providing students with a basic understanding within a chronological framework, it will also examine issues from political and sociological perspectives.
