Aims

1. To introduce students to the research process. 2. Students will plan out a research design for a small piece of group research. 3. Students will collect data for a small piece of group research.

Learning Outcomes

Identify and reflect upon the following aspects of self-awareness in respect of personal development and career planning: strengths and weaknesses, motivations and values, ability to work with others.

Design a qualitative research design.
3.
Collect and present qualitative data.
4.
Reflect on their experience of designing a qualitative research project.

Reflect on their experience of collecting and presenting qualitative data.

Module Content

Outline Syllabus:Understanding qualitative research, and researching the 'everyday'. Qualitative research methods – interviews, focus groups and 'field' research. Sampling strategies. Ethical issues. Presenting qualitative research.

After completing the module you should be able to:

Additional Information:The module will have students understand, evaluate and analyse small scale qualitative data that they collect in groups. Their group presentation will take place in either a student conference setting or in front of their peers in a smaller seminar setting.
