Identify the broad legislative and policy frameworks associated with health and social care for the mental health patient.

Describe the relationship between health economics and policy development to ensure patient safety

Understand the role of multi-professional working in mental health nursing
Module Content
Outline Syllabus:
Provide an introduction to the below topic in relation to the mental health field;
Provide an introduction to the below topic in relation to the mental health field;
- Health legislation and current health and social care policies and the mechanisms involved in influencing policy development (NMC 7.13, 5.12)
- Health economics and their relevance to resource allocation (NMC 7.3)
- The relationship between resources and recognising the risks to public protection and quality of care (NMC 6.2)
- The impact of policy on the delivery and co-ordination of care (NMC 7.4)
- Applying a person-centred approach to nursing care, demonstrating shared assessment, planning, decision making and goal setting when working with people, their families, communities, and populations of all ages (NMC 3.4, 3.5)
- Effectively assessing capacity across the stages of life to make decisions about their own care and understanding the principles and processes for making reasonable adjustments whilst understanding the relevant laws about mental capacity (NMC 1.2, 3.6, 3.7, 3.8)
- Advocacy (NMC 7.9)
- Partnership working (NMC 1.18, 3.15, 4.2,7.1)
