Module Content

Outline Syllabus:
Provide an introduction to;
  1. The principles of safeguarding (NMC 3.9)
  2. Professionalism and the code (NMC 1.1)
  3. Relevant legal, regulatory and governance requirements (NMC 1.2, 6.1)
  4. Consent and capacity (NMC 3.6, 3.8)
  5. Principles of courage, transparency, and candour (NMC 1.3)
  6. Identifying and reporting near misses, critical incidents, major incidents, and serious adverse events (NMC 6.8)
  7. Recognising and reporting any situations, behaviours and human factors or errors that could result in poor care outcomes (NMC 1.3, 5.2)

Module Overview:
This module introduces you to a range of values, attitudes and skills that underpin safe and effective clinical practice. You will develop your knowledge through lectures, practice focussed tutorials and skills simulations. Interactive web-based learning, scenario, work-based learning, and practice based reflective activities will be used to further develop your clinical skills.
Additional Information:
The Academic Assessor will monitor that the student has completed a minimum of 85% of the allocated practice learning hours for that year. This includes any practice placement learning and simulated practice learning, in accordance with the students programme plan. These hours are not included in the total module hours but are noted within the module proforma for university monitoring and progression purposes. In addition to the contact hours above there are 320 private study hours. 200 hours are guided, this includes online and assessment preparation. Online hours are e-learning. 120 hours are independent study Please note that workshop hours as listed in the above contact hours account for simulated theoretical learning, in accordance with NMC standard 3.4
