Aims

To introduce students to a range of models of analysing theatre texts, both as script and performance; To provide opportunities for students to assess and develop their skill in writing and presenting academic papers/essays.

Learning Outcomes

1.
Objectively analyse a performance within a clear critical framework;
2.
Present a written analysis to appropriate standards of academic writing and presentation.

Module Content

Outline Syllabus:Students will be offered several models and contexts of theatre and performance analysis and critical frameworks. Seminars will examine these in order to develop a vocabulary of critique as well as a working tool for rehearsal/production. (e.g. Stanislavskian analysis of text, Pavis’ model of performance analysis, basis of reception theory, socio-cultural commentary, journalistic review, etc.)
Module Overview:
This module introduces you to a range of models of analysing theatre texts, both as script and performance. You will have the opportunity to assess and develop your skill in writing and presenting in academic formats.
Additional Information:A year-long skills development module which is practically based, emphasising developing process and building vocabularies and skills rather than performance
