Aims
- To introduce students to the study of film through the formal properties and techniques of the medium.
- To analyse the stylistic and narrative dimensions of films through a study of formal properties and techniques of the medium.
- To introduce the basic elements of academic essay writing.
Learning Outcomes

Identify and analyse characteristic film techniques.

Understand the ways in which techniques are used to produce aesthetic effects.

Outline Syllabus:
Through lectures and workshops students will gain an understanding of the key techniques in Film Language (Mise-en-scene, Sound and Music, cinematography, Editing) and an appreciation of narrative and narration in film.
