Aims

To provide opportunity for students to consolidate and nurture musical theatre performance and acting skills through research, rehearsal and performance To identify practical and cognitive strategies for performing a text To recognise the provenance of an extant text within a cultural/historical context

Learning Outcomes

1.
Identify and utilise a range of musical theatre rehearsal and performance skills
2.
Articulate the connection between research, process and product in respect of and through performance
3.
Evaluate their own work and that of the group in the specific context of rehearsal and performance

Module Content

Outline Syllabus:This module consolidates and develops aspects of voice, movement, acting and production skills already introduced, through rehearsal leading to a workshop performance of extant material. Students will be set research tasks relevant to production and are expected to complete the ‘Actor’s homework’ in preparation for collaborative time in workshop/rehearsal. This leads to performance, which is an opportunity for students to experience and subsequently evaluate how the constituent elements of the performance mode affect the process as developed on the rehearsal floor.
Module Overview:
To provide opportunity for students to consolidate and nurture musical theatre performance and acting skills through research, rehearsal and performance.
Additional Information:This is a practical, workshop-based module, which is led by a staff director, musical director and choreographer as appropriate. It will culminate in a workshop production of extant material – usually, but not necessarily, from a single show - focusing on building and consolidating rehearsal process and musical theatre acting skills, rather than fully realised production values. Students will perform selected scenes/numbers and receive feedback on their skillsets in tutorial and rehearsal contexts. Student should wear appropriate rehearsal clothing as advised by their project director.
