Aims
This module aims to develop the students skills and competencies required to practice the clinical skills required of a Student on this programme
Learning Outcomes
1.
Demonstrate a range of clinical skills utilised in caring for individuals within the parameters of the role
2.
Demonstrate awareness of the Code of conduct and its relevance to a range of legal and ethical issues in practice
3.
Achieve the competencies specific to their role in clinical practice, including numeracy.
Module Content
Outline Syllabus:
Moving and Handling. Basic Life Support to include recovery position and maintenance of airways. Core skills leading to the Care Certificate. Applied consent and confidentiality. MMSE, MUST, BMI. Physical observations practice and recording. Infection control. Fluid balance and nutrition. Physical Health Checks. Introduction to the safe management of medication. NMC Code to include Record Keeping. Legal and Ethical Aspects of care to include Safeguarding. Health and safety in clinical practice.

This module aims to develop a student's skills and competencies required to practice the clinical skills required on this programme
This module aims to develop a student's skills and competencies required to practice the clinical skills required on this programme
Additional Information:
This module aims to prepare the student to actively participate in a range of practice learning environments. It introduces the skills and professional behaviour necessary to meet health and social care needs across the lifespan. This practice module includes university-based skill development activities designed to enable students to confidently engage in learning activities whilst on placement. This is reflected in the total contact hours for the module. These are designed to prepare students for all practice learning that meets the standards for pre-registration education. Hence, this contact will be reduced as the student progresses through the programme. The 20 hours allocated to Workshop reflects the hours of simulation within the module. Protected learning time of a minimum of 7.5 hours per week, although undertaken in practice sits within the private study module hours. Practice is assessed through a Practice Assessment Document and all domains included in the Practice Assessment Document must be passed There will also be a summative numeracy exam. Pass mark 80%
