Aims

The module is designed to provide a rigorous foundation for the student’s future development as an instrumental or vocal performer. It is designed to provide students with a range of vocal or instrumental skills, and the ability to reinforce these skills through disciplined regular practice.

The module further aims to develop general performance-related skills such as study/practice, preparation and presentation skills. It provides an opportunity to build technical skills and utilise these in a performance setting. The module also aims to foster a broad understanding of a range of performance related subjects including style, interpretation, and improvisation.

Demonstrate improvement in instrumental and/or vocal technique.

Demonstrate self-awareness on stage and show consideration of stagecraft suitable to the musical genre.

Module Content

Outline Syllabus:
The module provides a range of rehearsal and performance opportunities in which to apply and consolidate core music skills; developing preparation and presentation skills appropriate to musical performance. Various genres of music, stylistic awareness, improvisation, and interpretation. Students engage with technical exercises appropriate to the instrument or voice, use of scales, modes or chords as appropriate, interpretation/improvisation skills, and music reading skills.
Module Overview:
Weekly one-to-one instrumental or vocal lessons serve as a springboard to daily individual practice leading to assessed solo performances. Weekly tutor-led band rehearsals lead to assessed band performances.
