Module Content
Outline Syllabus:The module will equip you with the fundamental acting approaches to understand and realise contemporary texts and heightened Shakespearean text in monologues, as well as acting through song. You will identify appropriate material via research and reflective analysis. You will also comprehend the dramaturgical and structural aspects of monologue-work as complete narratives, generating a range of industry standard audition materials.
In the first part of this module you will work with solo storytelling techniques, giving life to self-generated stories; you will work with the imagination to create scene-pictures, giving life to inanimate objects and non-theatre spaces. This will then be developed further in monologue form. In contemporary text work you will generate stories you can relate and connect to; in your studies on Shakespearean heightened text you will work with language and ownership; in your story-songs you will act through song, exampling robust concentration and storytelling. In doing so, you will generate a portfolio of material and technical approaches applicable to a variety of contexts.
You will conclude this module by reflecting on the choices made in forming your Practical Portfolio. In doing so, you will be able to articulate your judgements, providing reasoning, insight and research; vital considerations for the actor’s preparation.
