Aims

This module aims to give students an historical context to popular music. Focus will be on the major developments in the history of popular music since 1950 to present. It will also serve to teach students appropriate academic writing skills and conventions.

Learning Outcomes

Identify and describe key developments in the history of Western popular music.

Demonstrate understanding using appropriate communication skills and conventions.

Outline Syllabus:The main movements in popular music development from 1950 to present day exploring exponents of the genres and identifying cultural, technological, and socio economic factors linked to change.
