Aims

1. To introduce a range of research-informed and topical issues within the broader context of Applied Psychology. 2. To illustrate how knowledge taken from the study of psychology can be applied to present-day problems. 3. To prepare students with the knowledge and skills to progress to level 4 studies in Psychology.

Review and summarise scientific literature related to the application of psychological theories to real-world issues.

Module Content

Outline Syllabus:This module provides students with a broad introduction to Applied Psychology. By the end of the module students will have developed an understanding of what is meant by Applied Psychology, and the domains in which psychology can be applied outside of the university (e.g. education, politics, business and the law). Over the course of the module students will learn about the theory and research that allows psychology to address real-world problems. The module also considers the challenges facing Applied Psychology, and students will be introduced to some of the rules that govern how psychology based interventions can be applied in different circumstances.

The aim of this module is to illustrate how knowledge taken from the study of psychology can be applied to present-day problems to prepare you with the knowledge and skills to progress throughout the programme.
Additional Information:This module focuses on the real-world applications of psychology, and how the discipline can address the problems facing contemporary society.
