Aims

To enable participants to demonstrate their research skills and critical knowledge associated with their own area of professional practice in relation to: a. The development and production of effective plans/proposals for the doctorate level investigative project to be undertaken in Stage Two of the Professional Doctorate including the research strategy b. The development and production of appropriate doctoral level learning agreements c. The development and production of an appropriate literature review for the proposed investigative project undertaken in Stage Two of the Professional Doctorate

Learning Outcomes

1.
Identify their own investigative projects and ascertain their learning needs in relation to these projects After completing the module the student should be able to: 1. Identify personal investigative projects and identify their learning in relation to these projects.
2.
Evidence a critical understanding of research issues and processes that move beyond level 7 into exploration of new methods and confident critical questioning of current paradigms
3.
Display a critical understanding of complex and specialised research knowledge and skills through the development of research plans and proposals that demonstrate: a) the potential for the creation of new knowledge at the forefront of their academic discipline and professional practice; b) the use of appropriate techniques/methodologies in their research
4.
Propose, discuss, evaluate and defend research plans put forward for stage 2 of the programme
5.
Critically analyse literature and research relating to the topic under investigation

Module Content

Outline Syllabus:Students will engage with the principles, theory and practice of: planning, project management, application of theory to practice, research design, data analysis techniques, critical approaches to research and knowledge problems, ethical approaches in professional practice and research, developing a learning agreement, problem solving through action learning strategies and processes, reflective learning and the use of reflective practice in management and professional learning and practice.
Module Overview:
This planning module provides the skills and confidence to develop and complete a detailed research proposal for a substantial research project.
Additional Information:The planning module is designed to equip students with the skills and confidence to develop and complete a detailed research proposal for a substantial research project. On completion of the module students will be able to produce: aims, objectives, research questions, literature reviews, critical responses to methodology, methods, data collection and analysis for work at level 8. Underpinning the research proposal will be an identification of how the research will contribute to knowledge and/or professional practice.
