To examine the theoretical and policy landscape of education.

Learning Outcomes

Conceptualise the theoretical underpinning of educational policy and practice.

Situate systems of education in their historical and socio-cultural contexts.
3.
Critically examine the power relationships that underpin education and educational outcomes.

Module Content

Outline Syllabus:Theories of learning and education. The impact of theory on educational policy and practice. The social, cultural and organisational context of education. The learning environment. Learning infrastructure and technology. Policy setting and policy enactment. Policy migration - the relationships between international and national factors that shape practice.
Module Overview:
The final taught module explores the contentious and challenging impact on practice of educational thinking, theory and policy. You will focus on how this plays out in your own area of professional practice, allowing you to deconstruct the various forces that shape education in its broadest sense.

Students will focus on how this plays out in their own area of professional practice.
