Aims
To enable the candidate to build a portfolio of work that demonstrates the outputs are of sufficient quantity and quality to justify the award of EngD and that that the work makes an original contribution to knowledge
Learning Outcomes
1.
Conceptualise, design and implement an original investigation project for the generation of new knowledge, applications or understanding at the forefront of engineering and adjust the project design accordingly in the light of unforeseen problems
2.
Ability to systematically acquire and understand knowledge at the forefront of the discipline and critically appraise its application to the project
3.
Originality in the application of knowledge to the problem with a practical understanding of how established techniques of research and enquiry are used to create and interpret knowledge in the discipline
4.
A comprehensive understanding of techniques applicable to research or advanced scholarship in the relevant field. Gain ethical, legal and regulatory approval as appropriate to the project
5.
Create and evaluate and apply new knowledge through original research of a quality which will satisfy peer review and merit publication

Outline Syllabus:Tutorial sessions with the supervisor will support the candidates research activity

One of the reports should provide the basis for a refereed paper.
