Module Offerings
8001ENGD-SEP-CTY
Aims
To generate a programme of work which has the potential to enable the candidate to demonstrate that: (a) they can achieve an EngD, and (b) they are making progress towards achieving the award throughout the project.
Learning Outcomes
1.
Identify a problem in their area of engineering identified from a ‘real world’ context and justify its suitability for a research based innovation project
2.
Critically analyse an engineering problem
3.
Appraise methods of addressing the identified problem and draw conclusions on the best way forward
4.
Design, present and justify a comprehensive and viable proposal, demonstrating consideration of project management, economic, ethical, legal and regulatory constraints
Module Content
Outline Syllabus:Definition of the problem. Preparation of a business case. Literature review to demonstrate critical analysis of the literature and relevance of the project. Development of a framework for research. Project planning.
Module Overview:
To generate a programme of work which has the potential to enable the candidate to demonstrate that: (a) they can achieve an EngD, and (b) they are making progress towards achieving the award throughout the project. The research project should be multidisciplinary and driven by an industry problem and making a creative and critical intervention in that context. It should lead to a practical outcome and a theoretically informed written thesis.
