Aims
The programme offers midwives an opportunity to develop their skills, knowledge and management ability in terms of woman within critical high dependency departments.
Learning Outcomes

Critically review the anatomy and physiology of childbearing women in
relation to complex and high dependency care.

Synthesise theory and practice for the care and systematic management of women with a range of conditions associated with complex and high dependency care.

Critically analyse the evidence base for critical and high dependency maternity care.

Critically reflect on the delivery of high dependency maternity care.

Additional Information:The programme offers Midwives the opportunity to enhance their skills sets and knowledge in terms of High dependency cases. A varied range of conditions will be covered in depth, which will increase knowledge and application to maternity cases.
Evidence based practice and guidelines form an integral part of teaching, and encourage critical review and reflection of standards of care and clinical management. The programme has two essential elements divided into theory and practice. Both theory and practice must be passed to successfully complete the programme. The practice aspect of the programme involves experience in a relevant area and this is reflected within the associated documentation.

1. The programme has taken account of the appropriate levels of the Frameworks for Higher Education Qualifications of UK Degree-Awarding Bodies (FHEQ) and is aligned to level 7 descriptors. This is reflected in the module learning outcomes.
2. The module involves classroom attendance, which is further supported by a range of learning support tools. The module is part time with a written assessment submission of an essay.
3. The criteria for admission to the module require that candidates are currently working/engaging with a critical high dependency setting.
4. The final award is a Continuing Professional Development – Complex High Dependency Maternity Care
5. The students will have access to a VLE site and the University's other range of electronic support such as access to the electronic library facilities. The module VLE site reflects contemporary reading lists and links to journal articles. The module VLE site also includes a number of presentations for students to access on areas such as critical writing and library support. The students also have access to the module leader through phone contact, emails and face to face meetings. A module guide is also provided, which guides students to the wider range of support available.

7. Attendance is required throughout the module; although some learning material will be available through the VLE site.

• Continuous Monitoring and Enhancements (CME).
• Liaison and feedback from the students
• Reports from the External Examiner
• Programme team ensuring the module reflects the values of the current teaching and learning strategy
• Module leader updating knowledge and skills to ensure these remain current and relevant
10. This is a standalone CPD. External Examiner responsibilities will be linked to the existing examiner for BA (Hons) Midwifery.
