Aims

The aim of this module is to develop in the students a clear, critical and creative understanding of the choreographic process and to help each individual student to realize themselves as creative practitioners. This module is designed as the foundation for their development as creative artists from both a technical and an artistic perspective.

Module Content

Outline Syllabus:The module builds on the students’ prior experience and understanding of dance developed in their professional practice / prior study and asks them to explore their own methodology and practice as dance creators. The syllabus will support the student in their development by exposing them to a range of methodologies and creative practices some of which will be introduced by visiting practitioners. The focus of the module is on helping the student to question their own assumptions and practices as artists; and to enhance their understanding of choreography as being a continuous process of creation which bring together in practice ideas, intentions, movement and production values. Working as a group the students will be encouraged to have open dialogue and exchange ideas, experiences and aspirations. Through the mentoring of the students they will be encouraged to challenge their own boundaries of choreographic practice and begin to develop as independent creative dance artists.
Additional Information:The module enables the student to critically engage with the processes and methodologies of choreography. Assessment is via two advanced choreographed performances.
