Aims

The module aims to provide opportunities for the student to • Develop advanced and embodied performance and technical skills that enables them to be transferred to new and challenging creative contexts • Develop a deeper understanding of the artistic and technical complexities of the performance process • Reflect upon, and engage critically with, their studio and performance practice • Develop critically underpinned and enriched knowledge, skills and understanding of dance performance

Learning Outcomes

reflect upon, elucidate and demonstrate embodied advanced technical dance performance skills, and the capacity to critically and appropriately employ them in new and challenging performance contexts;

reflect upon, elucidate and demonstrate an enhanced and analysed critical understanding of the relationship between technique and creativity in performance;

reflect upon, elucidate and demonstrate the ability to work effectively, creatively, and collaboratively in rehearsal and in performance;

reflect upon, elucidate and demonstrate the ability to produce advanced professional level and creative performances which marry technique with artistry 


Module Content

Outline Syllabus:This is a performance and technique based module. Each day the student will normally have at least two technique classes one in ballet and one in contemporary dance. In addition to this the students will also be engaged in performance projects, which will be led both by IAB staff and frequently by professional dance practitioners. The performance work is designed to challenge the students existing knowledge and understanding and broaden their understanding of contemporary dance practice
Additional Information:The module enables the student to develop- a deeper understanding of the artistic and technical complexities of the performance process. Assessment is via three chamber performances.
