Aims

To provide students with knowledge and understanding of the context of the architect and the construction industry, including the architect’s role in the processes of procurement and building production.

Learning Outcomes

1.
Appraise design projects and practice in the context of current policy, regulation, legislation, and requirements of sustainable design. (GC4.3, GC6.1 / 6.2, GC11.1 / 11.3).
2.
Differentiate between how the various disciplines (clients, users, constructors, co-professionals and wider society) integrate in procuring and progressing a development proposal. (GC6.1 / 6.2, GC11.2).
3.
Appraise current issues affecting professional practice and speculate on future directions. (GC6.2, GC11.3).

Module Content

Outline Syllabus:To provide students with knowledge about twelve key aspects of contemporary architectural practice in order that they have a strong foundation for entry into the RIBA Part 3 period of their education.
