Aims

The module aims to provide a critical perspective of different systems of education within the context of political, cultural, social and economic influences. The module also examines the sources and use of power within educational settings and investigates pedagogies for empowerment and transformation.

Learning Outcomes

Analyse power relationships within educational governance and provision

Recognise and reflect upon how educational governance is both influenced by, and has influence upon, wider social structures and cultural practices

Module Content

Outline Syllabus:Critical examination of: - Local, regional, national and international education systems - Governance and political power - Education and democracy - Privatisation and educational provision - Equity and access to education - Competing models of practice and alternative models of provision - Resistance and community education - Pedagogies for Empowerment and Transformation
Additional Information:This module is delivered as part of a fully online programme. Students are introduced to different systems of educational governance within the context of political, cultural, social and economic influences. Critical examination of sources and use of power within educational settings and investigating pedagogies for empowerment and transformation, will include drawing on their own experiences in education.
