Aims

To introduce students to postgraduate level methodological and theoretical approaches.
To provide students with the opportunity to critically appraise methodological and theoretical approaches.
To provide students with the skills required to undertake a research project at postgraduate level.

Learning Outcomes

Demonstrate a critical understanding of methodologies and theoretical approaches.
2.
Critically evaluate and identify appropriate resources in order to undertake research.
3.
Critically plan and implement research tasks and communicate an understanding of the research process.

Module Content

Outline Syllabus:
Overview of the research process focusing on research design and strategy.
Formulation of a research question and specific area of study.
Information sources and the purpose, nature and scope of literature reviewing.
Data collection techniques used in quantitative and qualitative research.
Process of data validation, inputting, and analysis. Interpretation, discussion and conclusions of research findings.
Additional Information:
This module prepares students with a thorough understanding of the key skills required in order to develop and carry-out a research-based project or dissertation in their subject.
