Aims

1. To explore definitions, models and pathways of psycho-spiritual transformation across a range of applied domains. 2. To develop personal competence in the application of transpersonal approaches in a practice context relevant to the student. 3. To explore issues of measurement and frameworks for understanding individual and collective transformation and what fosters it. 4. To examine critically how the above issues of measurement and explanation can be applied with respect to two areas (available from a range offered as optional topics within the module) that exemplify approaches in which transpersonal principles inform practice.

Learning Outcomes

1.
Demonstrate understanding of two specific approaches to psycho-spiritual transformation to a depth that enables them to evaluate practice efficacy in specific contexts.
2.
Critically assess practical and ethical issues of applying transpersonal pathways and principles in contemporary contexts.
3.
Critically reflect on the measurement of impact generated by transformational practices, as well as consider potential limitations of applying spiritual models in a variety of domains.

Module Content

Outline Syllabus:• Transformational Practice: o Definitions & theories of transformation o Models & pathways o Conceptualising the ‘sacred’ in applied practice • Issues of application and measurement: o The ethics of transformation: gurus, teachers, coaches or therapists? o Approaches to measurement of individual and collective transformation • Consideration of the above in two areas from a list of optional topics. Such optional topics may include: o Creativity and Transformation o Transpersonal psychotherapy and counselling o Transformational leadership o Transpersonal Coaching Psychology o Meditation & Mindfulness o Somatic psychology
Additional Information:This module is a core module on a fully online, distance learning MSc programme. All activities take place via the Collaborative Learning Environment (CLE) into which students will be inducted at the commencement of the programme. The term "online" under Delivery Options includes teaching delivered through synchronous webinars and through asynchronous forums.
