Module Content

Outline Syllabus:What is globalization? Concept analysis Dimensions of globalization: political, economic, technological and cultural Sustainable Development Goals and Global Public Health: Leave no-one behind Global health governance: The Role of the United Nations: World Health Organisation: World Bank The impact of globalization on health: Communicable and non-communicable disease Population health based risks in the global world: Tobacco, Food & Nutrition, Alcohol, HIV/AIDs, Pandemics, Violence Global health surveillance & the burden of disease Health Transitions Global responses to population health based risks through strategic actions
Additional Information:This module will examine the key processes of globalization (economic, cultural and political), how they impact on the health and health risks of populations and global level responses to them. Key population-based health risks are identified and their strategic response at the global level evaluated. Issues to be explored include communicable and non-communicable disease, health transitions, risk and surveillance, and global health governance. In brief it aims to examine population-based health risk in the context of globalization and the strategic response to this at the global level.
