Module Content

Outline Syllabus:An introduction to international health: historical development and conceptual analysis Health and human development: what is the relationship Health and the Sustainable Development Goals Health and Human Rights: leave no-one behind Intergovernmental and non-governmental organisations: Role in supporting and implementing strategic responses to population health based health concerns Health System Development: Financing, workforce, services, quality Universal Health Coverage Primary Health Care Maternal and Child Health Reproductive and sexual health
Additional Information:This module explores key issues related to international health and human development and core philosophy and values which underpin them. It examines both the determinants of health (social, environmental, economic, political) and health system development in the context of low- and middle-income countries. It evaluates a number of international strategies aimed at health for all and explores the role of primary health care as a means to achieve Universal Health Coverage in low resource setting. Key areas of study in this module includes: Sexual and Reproductive Health, Maternal and Child Health, the role of the private sector (including Non-governmental and International organisations) in service provision. In short it aims to enhance knowledge and understanding of international approaches to public health and health system development.
