Aims

To develop students' knowledge and critical understanding of planning and sustainable development in the built environment.

Learning Outcomes

1.
Distinguish and critically evaluate planning policies, objectives and procedures.
2.
Identify and analyse the practical application of planning policy at national and local levels, and evaluate their impact on sustainable development.
3.
Analyse and critically evaluate the various laws and procedures used in the control of sustainable development.
4.
Present to a professional standard the formulation and evaluation of a property development scenario working in collaboration with others.

Module Content

Outline Syllabus:Planning framework and development plans. Application of planning policies at national and local levels. Planning control, the development process and compulsory purchase. Sustainable and inclusive urban design and application. Regeneration policies and case studies. Sustainable, affordable and healthy housing. Creating prosperous places and vibrant communities. International perspective on planning and sustainable development.
Module Overview:
This module aims to develop your knowledge and critical understanding of planning law, policy and procedures with particular reference to the English planning system. It also increases your knowledge and critical understanding of the property development process.
