Aims

To understand and evaluate the principles and techniques utilised in the construction of buildings. To understand and evaluate the effective management and maintenance of commercial property holdings.

Learning Outcomes

Critically explain construction forms of both domestic and commercial buildings.

Critically evaluate principles and application of sustainable, low carbon technologies and methods of construction.

Evaluate the management and maintenance of building facilities in order to optimise organisational performance.

Outline Syllabus:Construction forms for domestic and commercial buildings. Building Regulations and Approved Documents Health and safety in construction Sustainable and low carbon construction principles & technologies Modern methods of construction Building materials and building performance Managing property holdings / property portfolio Asset management strategies Maintenance management and strategies
Module Overview:
This module will enable you to understand and evaluate the principles and techniques used in the construction of buildings. It will also help you to appraise and analyse the complexities of managing buildings from an asset management perspective. You will come to appreciate the complexity of building construction and technology and the importance of managing and maintaining Real Estate assets to optimise organisational and commercial performance.
Additional Information:The module develops the students’ ability to appreciate the complexity of building construction and technology and the importance of managing and maintaining real estate assets in order to optimize organisational and commercial performance.
