Aims
This module will introduce the standard intelligence theories and applications by intelligence analysts and professionals globally. Topics will include information systems, information control, data governance and how these concepts and many more assist the intelligence analysis process.
Criminal behaviour theories and the application of displacement practices will be studied for how they impact intelligence processes and ultimately shift criminal networks.
Learning Outcomes

Discuss critically contemporary intelligence theories and applications.
2.
In a global context evaluate critically the application of intelligence to criminal investigations.
3.
Discuss the impact of Fusion Centres for intelligence led policing post 9/11.
4.
Assess critically the effectiveness of globally threat risk assessments.
Module Content
Outline Syllabus:Following an introductory session the module will address the following topics:
• Tactical Intelligence theories
• Strategic intelligence theories
• Tactical vs Strategic intelligence – which to use and when
• Common intelligence applications and a history of each (successes and
failures)
• Fusion Centre concepts and where they work
• Threat risk assessments (TRA) – a brief history
• The evolution of TRA’s and where the future lies
