Aims
1. To introduce students to the fundamental principles of the English Law of Tort.
2. To provide students with a thorough knowledge and understanding of the non-legal and legal factors which shape the English Law of Tort.
3. To encourage students to develop a critical and analytical approach to the Law of Tort.
4. To enable students to apply the rules of Tort Law to factual based problems.
Learning Outcomes
1.
Demonstrate a critical understanding of the principles and purpose of Tort Law.

Demonstrate critical understanding and an ability to apply gained legal knowledge to complex problem situations; evaluate and draw logical conclusions supported by legal argument and authority and present informed solutions to them.

Demonstrate critical understanding and an ability to use appropriate legal terminology and language in written work and oral presentations.
4.
Demonstrate independent learning skills by taking responsibility for the planning and preparation of tutorials and coursework.

2. Psychiatric damage.
3. Economic loss.
4. Breach, causation, remoteness of damage.
5. Defences.
6. Occupier’s liability.
7. Employer’s liability, vicarious liability.
8. Trespass to land; nuisance; Ryland’s v Fletcher.
9. Trespass to the person.
10. Defamation; privacy.
