Aims

To provide students with a comprehensive introduction to the theory and practice of urban design. To provide historical and theoretical knowledge along with a range of technical skills to enable the analysis, generation and communication of urban design projects. To place urban design in a social, political and economic context with an understanding of environmental sustainability and cost / value issues.

Module Content

Outline Syllabus:Introduced with a concise lecture programme the module commences with a series of structured analytical and creative design tasks, delivered to students through tutorials and seminars in the form of design reviews. These tasks lead on to the main urban design group project, which is informed by an offsite workshop abroad or local alternative. The group project is also supported by tutorials and seminars. Additional individual urban design and communication tasks follow on from the group project such that the whole module effectively delivers an entire urban design process of analysis, design and communication. The module concludes with the assembly of an illustrated final report to communicate the full scope of the work undertaken in a concise and cogent fashion.

Additional Information:Welcome to the Urban Design Project 1 module.
