Aims

The aim of the dissertation is to develop the ability of students to analyse and interpret an issue in their chosen field drawing on the relevant body of knowledge, collecting data and completing a piece of writing in a manner conforming to the tenets of disciplined, lucid and critical scholarship.

Learning Outcomes

Evaluate and process primary or secondary data within the context of specified research objectives
2.
Develop a coherent and analytical argument which is related to the initial problem or hypothesis
3.
Reflect critically on the nature and purpose of research in relation to policing, security, community safety and criminal justice both collaboratively and co-operatively.
4.
Link empirical data, theory generation and practice within an organized and coherent piece of writing

Module Content

Outline Syllabus:An indicative range of topics includes: The Research Process and Frameworks for Research The Construction and Delivery of a Research Project from Concept to Write up Designing an Appropriate and ‘Doable’ Master’s Research Project Research Ethics and the Research Ethics Process
Module Overview:
The aim of the dissertation is to develop the ability of students to analyse and interpret an issue in their chosen field, drawing on the relevant body of knowledge, collecting data and completing a piece of writing in a manner conforming to the tenets of disciplined, lucid and critical scholarship. Supervision will be led by the most appropriate academic tutor with full support from the Policing Studies module team.
