Aims
This module aims to develop students’ understanding of how a forensic psychologist can act as a consultant in different applied settings. Students will develop a conceptual understanding of the skills and qualities needed for this role. This module will also teach skills in reflective practice, to support students’ continued professional development.

Module Content
Outline Syllabus:The module will involve a set of lectures covering key forensic psychology topics that are relevant to psychological consultancy and reflective practice. The following are indicative topics:
The role of a psychologist as a consultant
Key stages in the consultancy process
Organisational culture
Gathering and analysing evidence
Reflective practice in forensic settings
Ethical considerations in the consultancy process
Report writing and professional self-presentation

Additional Information:Employability skills are a key focus of this module. Students will be taught how to develop their skills in analysis, problem solving and decision-making. Given that consultants often advise within multi-disciplinary professional teams, this module aims to develop students’ skills in leadership. Students will also develop a deep understanding of how to work effectively as part of a team in a professional setting, including how to communicate effectively and professionally.
