Aims

This module will review the key concepts of quantitative, qualitative, and mixed methods research that are key to Forensic and Investigative Psychologists. Students will be assisted to develop a comprehensive understanding of methodologies used in the field of Forensic and Investigative Psychology and studies in this field. Students will be equipped with the knowledge to critically evaluate research studies and address the current developments in terms of conducting rigorous research, protecting participant data, and conducting ethical research particularly in terms of collecting sensitive information from vulnerable participants (e.g., victims of crime).

Module Overview:
This module reviews the key concepts of quantitative, qualitative, and mixed methods research that are key to Forensic and Investigative Psychologists.

You will be assisted to develop a comprehensive understanding of methodologies used in the field of Forensic and Investigative Psychology and studies in this field. You will develop the knowledge to critically evaluate research studies and address the current developments in terms of conducting rigorous research, protecting participant data, and conducting ethical research particularly in terms of collecting sensitive information from vulnerable participants (e.g., victims of crime).
Additional Information:Within this module students will be assisted to advance their knowledge of research methods. Following a review of key concepts, the module will progress to addressing more complex research methodologies students might not be familiar with (e.g., narrative interviewing skills) and types of analysis (e.g., Bayesian analysis), with particular emphasis on the aspects that are most relevant to research in this field. This module will also help students to develop their professional written and spoken communication skills, as well as their ICT skills and digital capability. Ultimately, this module will aim to equip students with the skills to pursue a quality research project in the field of Forensic and Investigative Psychology.
