Aims

1) To further develop research abilities, in particular in how to broaden one’s writing craft in order to have dramatic stories with a high level of realism or detail 2) To employ specific and highly focused research in order to give an original and accomplished presentation 3) To further expand workshopping and feedback insights on peers’ work 4) To expand to writing works that are considerably more substantial in length 5) To increase understanding of what makes for effective screenwriting 6) To incorporate narrative theory on feature film writing into their own creative work

Learning Outcomes

1.
Present ideas and illustrate an understanding of feature length storytelling narrative
2.
Write a feature length film that has a detailed three act structure
3.
Articulate and discuss original creative writing in relation to fellow peers work
4.
Present highly detailed research on specific elements of screenwriting
5.
Use research to further their own development or a method to increase the realism and dramatic scope of their own projects.

Module Content

Outline Syllabus:1. Complete first feature film draft. 2. Research methods and applying research to story construction and character development. 3. Using scene cards to map out narrative 4. Research methods. 5. Outlining original feature length work.
Module Overview:
This module aims to develop research abilities, in relation to writing craft, to have dramatic stories with a high level of realism or detail; it employs specific and highly focused research to give an original and accomplished presentation. It:
  • helps you to improve insight into workshopping and feedback on peer work
  • helps you to increase understanding of what makes for effective screenwriting
  • enables you to incorporate narrative theory on feature film writing into your own creative work
Additional Information:The module will be a mixture of seminars and workshops. Research will be featured and used to aid student’s development as writers and creators of original material Students will be encouraged to read and research widely.
