Aims

Support the development of self-directed and in-depth body of work appropriate to the student's concerns. Enable students to plan, organise and deliver a major project, through effective time and resource management, demonstrating a high level of critical engagement, creative achievement and appropriate technical ability. Develop the students' ability to speak coherently about their work and enhance their capacity to engage focussed research and scholarly evaluation.

Learning Outcomes

Evaluate and synthesise various theoretical positions in urban design.
2.
Explore and apply a contemporary urban design theme through in-depth research and intelligent development of a critical argument or creative piece of work.
3.
Synthesise knowledge of the social, political and economic context and appropriate theoretical concepts of urban design into design project work.
4.
Evaluate the results of their individual research through engaging in critical debate about their work to their peers and assessors.
5.
Coherently present a conclusive and substantial body of specialist research either as scholarly and illustrated work or other form developed with the agreement of the Assessment Panel.

Module Content

Outline Syllabus:Prior to commencing this module each student will have proposed a topic of enquiry and research methodology and had it approved in the Major Project Proposal Report component of preceding module. In this module the students will research, critically evaluate and present their chosen topic enquiry.
Additional Information:The focus of the study is initiated by the student, depending on the research and/or design interest and in response to the content of the programme. Where needed, the supervisor will suggest alternative themes of exploration and provide guidance to ensure the relevance of the theme, the methodology and the structure of the project.
