Aims

1. Deliver substantial work for an assignment brief. 2. Exploit a range of technologies to communicate ideas, information and aesthetic judgements to an audience. 3. Write/produce and present materials that are potentially suitable for use in industry or for academic research and publication.

Learning Outcomes

1.
Carry out an extended piece of independent research by acting autonomously in planning and implementing tasks.
2.
Make informed judgements by critically evaluating theoretical approaches to film.
3.
Demonstrate a sophisticated conceptual understanding to critically examine, evaluate, select and deploy appropriate language (theoretical or practical) to produce an innovative portfolio of work.

Module Content

Outline Syllabus:The module provides students with the opportunity to research and conduct and in depth written and/or practical portfolio in any approved subject in Film Studies. The sustained opportunity provided for autonomous study enables students to develop and consolidate their intellectual and creative achievement on the Masters programme.
Module Overview:
Undertake an extended project, which can be either a written or practice-based piece. The topic will be agreed in advance and students will be allocated a supervisor who is a specialist in the field.
Additional Information:Each student will be allocated a supervisor, who will advise students, via one-to-one tutorials, on the most effective way to develop their portfolio of work. Students are able to produce either a written thesis or practical project with accompanying written critical reflection.

Dissertation
