Aims
To enrich the Advanced Practitioner’s knowledge of the pathophysiology, treatment and prevention of the microvascular and macrovascular complications associated with diabetes.
Learning Outcomes

Critically consider the risk factors for the macrovascular and microvascular complications associated with diabetes

Explore the screening, prevention and treatment of the macrovascular and microvascular complications associated with diabetes

Analyse service provision for patients with diabetes related complications.
Module Content
Outline Syllabus:Pathogenesis of each of the microvascular complications (retinopathy, nephropathy and neuropathy). Pathogenesis and risks of macrovascular complications (CVD, IHD, PAD), NICE guidance for treatment of complications. Risk factors for developing complications (inc. HbA1c, duration diabetes, BP, lipids). Importance of education and self management, psychosocial impact of complications. Referral pathways and services available.

- equips you with underlying knowledge of the complications associated with diabetes, risk factors for development, evidence-based guidance on prevention and management
- offer insight into the practical issues associated with managing patients with complications and the local services available to support this

The module is available as a CPD and is a option module on the Masters in Advanced Health Care Practice (Diabetes).
