Aims

The aim of this module is to examine the development of strategies for the procurement of construction work within the legal and contractual frameworks operating in the construction industry.

Learning Outcomes

1.
Critically evaluate modern methods of construction procurement and contractual options for given business and project objectives.
2.
Critically review the concepts and the applications of sustainable development and sustainable construction and their integration within the procurement process
3.
Critically evaluate the relevance of European and International Procurement to the construction industry
4.
Evaluate the methods of dispute resolution available to the construction industry.

Module Content

Outline Syllabus:Modern methods of construction procurement. Allocation of risk within the different procurement options. Stakeholders and supply chain management Procurement decision-making. EU Procurement Directives and European/International approaches. Definitions and applications of sustainability; sustainable construction, social, economic and environmental dimensions of sustainable construction/sustainable procurement; Integration of sustainable construction within procurement strategies; enablers and barriers of sustainable construction procurement. Dispute management and resolution in construction and engineering works.
Additional Information:This module develops an understanding of the issues underpinning decisions made about procurement and contract strategies.
