Aims

The aims of this module are to: 1. Equip the student with pre-professional techniques and singing skills. 2. Embed advanced levels of applied knowledge in healthy practice for singing and voice care. 3. Assemble a repertoire folder that reflects a wide range of styles, composers and adequately prepares the student for the industry. 4. Provide the student with the technical and performative skills to undertake professional singing auditions. 5. Ensure the student can work masterfully, musically and expressively with material from a broad range of styles and genres. 6. Further develop, and consolidate individual approaches to acting, and deepen the students understanding of how to utilise these skills in musical theatre performance.

Module Content

Outline Syllabus:Each student will receive individual singing lessons throughout the course of this module. Although the content will be tailored specifically toward each individual student, there will be a clear focus on the consolidation of individual singing style and technique. These lessons provide the opportunity to explore your vocal potential and put together a repertoire of material suitable for professional auditions. Additionally, students will also receive coaching sessions with a répétiteur to support their ability to work with an accompanist. Acting Through Song is a workshop-style class which builds on the work covered in Level 5. Focusing on the technical skills of acting when (and through) singing, students will focus on repertoire in preparation for professional auditions and industry. This class augments the performance element of both singing assessments. Continuing from the work in Level 5, Vocal Style Study explore the differing stylistic requirements to sustain a career in musical theatre. Students will consolidate their under-standing of a range of cultural and historical performance styles and apply these into a cohesive acting technique for musical theatre.
Additional Information:This module equips students with the singing technique and performance skills when working with contemporary musical theatre repertoire. Assessment is via two live presentations.
