Aims
This module aims to provide students with the opportunity for independent learning through the completion of an individual, extended research project. Following on from skills developed at Level 5 and proposed topics of study, the project requires a high level of individual application and commitment to research and enquiry. It provides students with the opportunity to identify, reflect upon and explore a topic that has implications for their own professional development.
Learning Outcomes
1.
Critically review and analyse literature pertaining to the topic area chosen.
2.
Critically evaluate appropriate research methods and apply research techniques for the collection and analysis of information.
3.
Critically analyse findings in relation to theories and concepts and present a report with a set of evaluative conclusions and recommendations based on the findings of the research.
Module Content
Outline Syllabus:• Definition of and approach to an extended piece of individual intellectual work
• Appropriate topics for an advanced piece of individual intellectual work
• Evaluating existing studies relevant to the topic (background reading)
• Making use of various non-textual sources of information
• Participating in research design and planning of a study relevant to the industry
• Techniques for collecting and analysing information
• Selecting the people/places/issues to study
• Interpreting and presenting information
• Discussing findings in relation to existing studies
• Drawing appropriate conclusions and making recommendations
• Reflection on the study undertaken
• Writing a report
