Aims

The major project brings together all the skills learned at levels 3, 4 and 5. Through an original piece of research, the student will attempt to gain an in-depth appreciation of the research process. The definition of an Empirical project is the examination of treatments/groups in an attempt to establish cause and effect.

Learning Outcomes

1.
Apply skills and competencies to conduct research in an area relevant to their programme of study.
2.
Critically appraise the research in a written format as specified by the major project guidelines.

Module Content

Outline Syllabus:The Major Project requires a significant amount of independent study (e.g., an approximate total of 350-400 hours that averages out to approximately 11-12 hours per week of the teaching year). This is detailed as 'research time' and you will be required to organise your own timetable for developing your project, complete your research, develop research skills and complete the write-up and associated documentation. Although challenging, past students have found the ability to choose an area of interest for their project and to do their own empirical work and present their own findings extremely rewarding.
Additional Information:Therefore, in order to assist you with your project online interactive sessions are provided in that key information will be delivered. In addition, students are provided with two supervisors, one in YAU and remote supervision from an appropriate academic in LJMU.
