Aims
The aims of this module are threefold:
1. To develop the learner’s ability to analyse and evaluate trends in current social and cultural policy with a view to identifying and ,where appropriate, exploiting possibilities for social entrepreneurship;
2. To prepare students to make informed decision regarding incorporation/formal business structures.
3. To prepare learners for the selective and competitive processes they are likely to encounter within the broad ATCD field including:
· Job application and interview processes.
· Funding applications.
Learning Outcomes
1.
Demonstrate a comprehensive critical awareness of the social, political and cultural imperatives that drive the production of ATCD practice and theory;
2.
Demonstrate the ability, through both speech and writing, to develop a clear and coherent argument that shows use of contextual research and analysis/synthesis;
3.
Identify and appraise the key issues of incorporating a business;
4.
Synthesise a clear articulate of themselves as a practitioner in an application and interview process paying close attention to the requirements of the post.
Module Content
Outline Syllabus:Unit 1: Contemporary Policy and Practice This module will be delivered in two strands. A series of lecture/workshops will introduce key theory and policy debate whilst a second strand of seminar sessions will introduce students to current critical language and writing styles through analysis and discussion of journal articles and policy documents.
Unit 2: Employment and Enterprise This unit will focus on a range of selective and competitive processes students are likely to encounter within the broad ATCD including the completion of a funding bid.. In addition a series of master-classes will be held prepare students to make informed decision regarding incorporation/formal business structures. Finally students will engage in a practical interview/tendering exercise.
