Outline Syllabus:- The nature of community - Understanding the contemporary social and economic context of local communities - Community development theory and practice - Organising in the community - Community profiling - Developmental group work - The theory and practice of informal education - Critical reflective practice in working in the community - Collective action for change - Social capital, bridging and bonding - Skills in community and neighbourhood work - Promoting financial inclusion in low income communities - Living on a low income - Social and community finance - Financial education and the development of skills in financial capability - Community development and health
Module Overview:
To provide the students with the opportunity to study the theory of community and local economic development as applicable to working in organisations engaged in the community This module allows students to develop their analytical knowledge of the concept of community.
