Aims

Critically explore the socially constructed nature of coaching expertise and effectiveness. Specifically, students will consider how power is produced and reproduced through the coaching process and practice. Following this, the students will critically consider the impact of coaching on performers.

Module Content

Outline Syllabus:Coaching expertise; How Coaches Learn: Expertise; Effectiveness; Coach Learning. Theory in coaching practice; Socialisation in Coach Education; Provision and Social Justice Theory: Marginalised Groups – Women and Girls; Cognitive / Social Learning Theory. Coaching practice observation and reflection.
