Aims
To provide an in depth awareness of the key issues of commissioning of building engineering systems, maintenance of such systems and the integration of maintenance with the facilities management regime in buildings.
Learning Outcomes
1.
Investigate and evaluate the key issues and practices involved in the commissioning of building engineering systems and plant in complex commercial buildings.
2.
Investigate and evaluate the key issues and practices involved in the maintenance of building engineering systems and plant in complex commercial buildings.
3.
Analyse and evaluate the interrelationship between the commissioning and maintenance of building engineering systems and plant in complex commercial buildings and the role of the facilities manager.
4.
Analyse and evaluate the applicability of the systems and models used in the context of both maintenance and facilities management.

Outline Syllabus:Design, commissioning and performance of buildings – introducing the “performance gap”.
Commissioning methodologies for building engineering systems and plant.
Handover procedures between installers and facilities managers
Building engineering systems maintenance strategies and programmes.
The significance and role of building maintenance.
Maintenance management principles and application.
The role and skills of the facilities manager in support of core business requirements.
Sustainability in the context of maintenance and facilities management.
Application of facilities management skills to the workplace.
Facilities management in a business context.
